Didá - The company

The name Didá comes from Yoruba and means the power of creation.

Didá is a new and up and coming dance company which has cultural diversity on their agenda.

Didás goals are to produce performances, support choreographers, and arrange workshops, seminars and festivals which help to make cultural diverse artists more visible and to develop the cultural diversity in dance in Norway. The choreographers who create for Didá have all more than one cultural influence in their work having backgrounds from Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean. Didá is the first professional dance companies in Norway to focus on bringing forwards and nurture choreographers and dancers who are culturally diverse and that wants to show this in their work.

Didá also want to make a change in the Norwegian dance scene through:

Encourage venues to integrate dance work by choreographers with a minority background in their main program
Offer the local community the opportunity to join workshops and so on build an audience for the company but also educate and develop an understanding and knowledge about the different foreign cultures that exist and are emerging in Norway
Be a platform for the development and the possible creation of creative art forms

Didá has in a short time been known amongst the funders, the press and the audience with our choreographers’ high standards, the solid administration and successful and community engaged work format existing of workshops and projects for children and youths as well as professional productions.
